In November's newsletter, we head to a tree-lined strip, go to a private island, and ask you how often you're flying these days...

"Where Am I?" - November

If you like landing in the mountains at a well-hidden airport tucked between rows of tall trees, then you're going to love November's "Where Am I?" contest.

After touchdown on the 3,085 foot sloped runway at this Northwestern airpark, grab your camping gear or golf clubs. Watch your density altitude in the summer. Watch for snow and ice in the winter. Enough hints?

The first person to submit the correct guess gets a NEW Archer Bravo Aviation t-shirt and bragging rights in next month's newsletter.

Sand & the Sea...

ImageWhen you think of the sand and sea, you might think of Mexico or Hawaii. But the desert? That was the winning guess for October's "Where Am I?" contest.

Archer Bravo Member Mike Dahl was the first to recognize this oasis as the Jacqueline Cochran Regional Airport (TRM), better known as Thermal, near Palm Springs, California.

So what about the sea? Not far to the east beyond the two runways at Thermal is the Salton Sea, a 376 square mile saline lake. Watch for corrosion!

Congrats Mike! A new Archer Bravo t-shirt is on its way.

Is Once A Month Enough?

ImageWe're all feeling it. A tough economy and frustrating fuel prices. And now diminishing daylight and winter's wrath. Oh, and throw in the bustling holiday season.

For many of us, it means we're flying less. But is once a month enough? Our Bravo Blogger thinks he has an answer, but only after making some embarrassing mistakes.

CHiPs Goes Flying

ImageForget about the tandem motorcycle officers. This California Highway Patrol vehicle is certainly something you wouldn't want to see in your rearview mirror.

Archer Bravo Member Matthew Papenfuhs was the first to correctly identify the pictured aircraft as a CHP Eurostar AS350.

The chopper, and all of its high-tech gear, is resting on the hot ramp at the Thermal Airport (see "Where Am I?" above) between missions in the California desert, where it fills the gaps patrolling the long, desolate stretches of highways and roads.

Congrats Matthew! An Archer Bravo Aviation mousepad is on the way!

What Am I? - November

ImageLet's go back to the fixed-wing variety for this month's "What Am I?" contest.

We found this tri-turbine beauty sitting all alone on ramp at the Lanai City Airport, situated on the private Hawaiian Island where Bill Gates got married.

That's not a hint, as we don't think the plane belongs to the Microsoft founder. But perhaps you know who's lucky enough to step aboard.

The first person to correctly guess the type of aircraft wins an Archer Bravo Aviation mousepad, and a mention in our next newsletter.
