"Where Am I?" - January

Our first "Where Am I?" contest of 2008 takes us island hopping. But if you're thinking it's the tropics, put on your coat.

The many beaches near this airport see most of their visitors during the summer, as city dwellers flock here for an escape.

The first person to submit the correct guess gets an Archer Bravo Aviation t-shirt and bragging rights in next month's newsletter.

Far From Plain...

ImageDecember's "Where Am I?" contest landed at one of the more convenient airports in the state of New York.

Archer Bravo Member Mark Stoel was the first to correctly guess the picture was taken on short final to runway 34 at the Westchester County Airport (HPN) in White Plains.

Member John Levinson snapped the photo from his Cessna 182 on a recent trip to HPN, which serves more than one million flights per year, both commerical and general aviation.

Congratulations Mark. An Archer Bravo Aviation t-shirt is on the way!

It's A Bird, It's A Plane...

ImageDecember's "What Am I?" contest went something like this... It's a bird. It's a plane. It's a Grumman Widgeon.

Member John Reeve was the first to correctly identify the odd looking, but classically beautiful amphibious. It's pictured here on the ramp at the San Carlos Airport (SQL) in California, shortly before departing for Lake Berryessa north of San Francisco.

Oh, and that's Chris Archer, the founder of this website, ready for a day on the lake.

Congratulations John, an Archer Bravo mousepad is on the way!

Power Failure On Final

ImageIt was just last month that our Bravo Blog experienced a hard landing in a 777 on Maui.

Now, in an eerie coincidence, another Triple Seven has landed hard - much harder, in fact - after losing power on final approach into London's Heathrow airport.

But what about a Cessna? Our math shows it wouldn't have made it to the airport, another reminder that no landing is routine...
